I am a highly experienced qualified teacher having worked in secondary schools for 17 years. Whilst the majority of my experience has been focused on teaching children and young people between the ages of 11 to 18, I have also worked with primary aged children across KS1 and 2. Throughout my entire career I have taught GCSE, A Level and vocational qualifications, supporting my learners to achieve excellent results.

I pride myself on my creative problem-solving skills which enables me to tailor my teaching to the needs of the children and young people that I work with. I believe in a practical approach to teaching and learning to encourage high levels of engagement and draw on a range of methods to encourage outstanding progress. Although my focus is primarily on academic progress, I am also a strong advocate for the development of transferable skills to help young people succeed in all their future endeavours.
I have been trained in a wide variety of special educational needs, including ASD, ADD, ADHD, PDA, dyslexia and dyscalculia. I also have experience of supporting young people who may be suffering from anxiety or other mental health issues.

Most of my teaching career has included management and leadership positions which have provided me with advanced skills in teaching and learning, curriculum design and pastoral care. These roles have included Head of Department, Key Stage Leader, Transition Co-Ordinator, Associate Assistant Principal, Curriculum Convergence Facilitator and ITT Subject Lead. I provide consultancy and CPD services for schools, specifically around the delivery and development of fully sequenced and challenging music curricula.

As a musician and arts practitioner, I perform as a soloist and in classical and contemporary ensembles on a variety of woodwind instruments, piano, tuned and untuned percussion and as a vocalist. I am also an experienced composer, arranger, and musical director, and have worked with a variety of groups including choirs, musical societies, orchestras, brass bands, swing bands and concert bands. I also have several years’ experience as producer and director of musicals.
